Some say that the automobile got its start in China around 1672 by Ferdinand Verbiest, a Jesuit missionary. It is believed that Ferdinand Verbiest, on a mission to China built a steam engine vehicle and offered it as a gift to the Chinese Emperor. While others hold on to the belief that the first true automobile was built in 1769 by the French Military engineer Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot. Either way the automobile was born.
We have a love -hate relationship with the automobile. We love to love our automobiles because of the conveyance and comfort they provide in traveling from destination to destination. Our automobile also strokes our Ego’s and builds status. Most of us love to add our own unique and personal touches to our autos. We build hot rods, off road four by fours, and sand rails. We paint them in bright and fancy colors, we jack them up and we lower them down. We add thousands of dollars to our automobiles and customize them in any way possible. You can say the automobile has become an extinction of our own personality.
The sale of automobiles has grown since its introduction, in the United States alone there are an estimated 144 million automobiles. That is about two working cars per person. However, over the past few years automobile sales have taken a drastic decline. This can be contributed to the high cost of gasoline and the overpriced low quality product the auto manufactures have been producing lately. This decline is sales has brought the automobile industry to the brink of self destruction. Auto parts sales are predicted to decline due to the loss of sales the automobile industry been plagued with over the last few years and the economic crises we have been in as well.
Most of us hate our cars because it is getting more expensive every year to register our automobiles, the high maintenance cost and the rather high insurance we all have to have before we can register them. Another reason some people hate their automobiles is because of the harmful emissions and pollutants the automobile produce into our atmosphere. Also the automobile manufacturers have been producing poor quality highly inflated automobiles that cost an arm and a leg to maintain, repair or get parts for.
In order to turn things around and create a Love, Love relationships with the automobile changes have to be made. I think a wakeup call has been issued by the people that once had a love affair with the automobile and the big corporate fat cats need to listen. We want safe, low cost, good quality; fuel efficient and environmentally friendly automobiles that we can afford to drive and repair.
If you love them or hate them I hope you will agree that the automobile manufactures got lucky. They need to stop thinking about how to make their fat bank accounts fatter and start listing to what we the consumer want and needs to continue our love affair with the automobile.
